It's not about going 11-5 this year. It's about going 11-5 this year and the year after and the year after. It's about going eight straight years making the playoffs. Mike McCarthy was ready to be a head coach. He had studied under a host of different coaches and had been a coordinator for five years. He was ready.
He has no idea whatsoever. He probably was blown away by how many people were in the media auditorium today.
He'll tell Gutekunst what kind of player he wants.
In the beginning, I'm sure he will. The key is will he listen during the season when the game is on the line and LaFleur makes a call he doesn't like.
I think that is a question all of the candidates tried to find out. If they didn't, they were not doing their due diligence.
No, but I think he could be associate head coach, maybe in charge of offensive line.
McCarthy was nervous but he was forceful. He kept saying that they were going to win a "World's Championship". I'll never forget that. He said it about 10 times.
Nine players who represented each position and met with Murphy and Gutekunst after the season.
If Pettine is there, I'm sure they will.
That stuff is done behind the scenes. Pettine will be back.
I wouldn't. McCarthy was really fired up when he got hired. You felt like he was ready to start practice right away. Like he said, he kept saying they were going to win a championship.
I don't think he has done that.
I don't have any stats on that.
I don't want to say wow me because he isn't that best public speaker. But he was very fired up, as I said, and he was practically guaranteeing they would win another Super Bowl.
If he's a failure, Murphy will be fired. They'll clean house is my guess.
I'm sure it was just a get-to-know you type of thing. I don't know how deep it got.
If he knows his stuff and is willing to stand up to him. Rodgers needs coaching. I don't think he was getting that with Frank Cignetti last year. He needs someone who isn't afraid to pull back on his responsibilities and demand he run the plays called.
I do think they're taking a big swing based on this guy's place in the Shanahan/McVay tree. He has a lot of great experience coaching quarterbacks, but some are guys are meant to be coordinators and not head coaches. We need to find out if that is the case here.
