Good morning everybody, welcome to the funnest way to spend 10 hours on NFL cutdown day.
We are officially up and running. I'm your host and for the next 10 hours I will be pretending I know what's going on in Ted Thompson's head and will provide you updates on any move the Green Bay Packers make.
We will keep a running tally of how many players are still the on the roster (as far as we know) and I'll pin it at the top of the blog.
We will find out in good time. But if I were a betting man, I'd say yes .
One thing I heard late last night is that the Packers are shopping players. Now, I don't know if that means they're shopping anyone of value or just guys they plan on cutting. I'm still trying to find that out. So we'll have our ears open today for that kind of thing.
Derrick Mathews is a hitter. If the guy were two inches taller he'd be a heck of a player. I do think he'll be on the practice squad, although if the Packers keep four ILBs, there really isn't a great need. But if Jordan Tripp makes it and is still in the concussion protocol, they'd probably try to sign him to the PS.
Half gone from my first cup.
I do think there will be some mild surprises. There usually are. A lot depends on what's going on with trades and whether anybody is making the Packers an offer they can't refuse. I kind of doubt that will be the case, but you never know.
And vice versa, most likely.
Very happy to hear you're doing OK. I hope that's the case with the entire community, although I know there are a lot of people who are hurting in Houston. I hope we can provide a minute's distraction for you. To answer your question, I'd be surprised if anything that big happens. But since I didn't see the Sitton thing coming, I definitely won't see it if it is coming.
Right now, there's just so much talent and experience in front of him. There are receivers with bigger upsides. But we don't know if someone will be traded or if both of the draft picks will be cut, so it's not a lock he'll be let go. It's just hard to make the Packers' roster as a WR.
I don't think so. I believe he's in because of his special teams ability. With him, Josh Jones and Josh Hawkins covering punts, the Packers have a chance to have a terrific punt cover unit. That's a big part of the game now.
The Packers don't want other teams to know what they're doing. It's silly though. Why they couldn't announce the ones they made yesterday is just ridiculous. At least give those kids the chance to get picked up on waivers or shop themselves as free agents today.
I don't have one right now. But stay tuned.
Biegel is not getting cut and anyone who says so is foolish. Fackrell, I think, will make it. But I can see why people are questioning it. He hasn't advanced the way he should have.
Personnel people around the NFL, agents, sometimes players.
No question. They're looking for a center I'm sure. It doesn't mean they'll find one, but they're looking. There also seems to be a lot of trading going on. Seattle has been wheeling and dealing. We'll see how that goes.
