There's some intriguing guys in Round 2. DJ Chark, Dante Pettis, J'Mon Moore, Michael Gallup.
I have to give equal time to idiots and genuises.
You don't worry about that. The more picks you have the better your odds to get it right. It's just math.
Courtland Sutton is out there, too, for WRs.
I always lean toward the bigger guy. Sutton isn't nearly as fast, but he's a big dude.
That is true. But I think most people felt there wasn't that much of a difference in talent in the first round this year. But we will find out. They very well could be wrong about James and Edmunds. This could define Gutekunst.
I'm not sure there's a consensus on that. There are a lot of good athletes in this draft. Lots of athletic WRs and CBs. Some very athletic TEs.
Jordy Nelson, Mike Daniels, Morgan Burnett, T.J. Lang, Josh Sitton, Lane Taylor, ...
I'm not one to give grades on draft night. It's a pretty fruitless exercise because we don't know how any of these guys are going to turn out.
Maybe. I think they need an OL or edge rusher ahead of a TE.
I don't know if that was on Gutekunst's mind. I do want to hear what he says about the '19 draft.
I think it will be OL, WR or edge.
There are some edge rushers still on the board who might be able to help them: Hubbard, Okoronkwo, Landry, Sweat, Nworso....
OK, Gutekunst is coming down now. I'll transcribe.
BGutekunst: Exciting today. Lot of action. Really excited about Jaire Alexander. Explosive speed.
BG: You kind of see who the trade partners are. There was a lot of action beginning to end.
BG: H was in consideration (at 14). We thought they were similar value.
BG: Getting a first next year was too good to pass up. First-round picks dont come easy. We got the same value with our pick.
BG: He was one of those targets we liked quite a bit. WE did talk to him on numerous occassions. He was a guy from early on, from the fall, that our guys were excited about.
BG: You go into it with a lot of different ideas what you're going to do. How it fell, you have players with equal value ... that's how it happened.
BG: He's very physical, very aggressive. When corner lacks height, you look to see if he can play inside and outside. Our coaches really felt good about him.
