Good evening, everybody. Who's ready for some fun?
Are we still in a bad mood today or has time healed the wounds?
Here's what I think about the trade: From a straight analysts standpoint, I think it was a hugely favorable move for Gutekunst. I don't know if a first-year GM has made as good a move as that from a pure pick for pick standpoint. He got an additional first-round pick and I don't think you can minimize that at all. He still got a fairly high-rated player out of it, too. Now, it comes with the caveat that Edmunds or James might turn out to be Hall of Famers. Then it was a bad trade. But on paper, right now, it was brilliant.
I think the positions that they play might have had an impact. Safeties are great, but corners are more important. James is an athletic wonder, but he's pretty raw. Edmunds is an inside linebacker and we don't see those having a big impact anymore. He needs a lot of work if he's going to be a pass rusher. I think teams went for established players at key positions.
I don't have a particular player in mind, but I think we'll see them take a receiver or linebacker. We'll see.
Not completely. I would guess that they liked Edmunds, James and Alexander all about the same.
Yes they were. Lots of angry draftniks.
I truly think it's a best player available scenario. I'm sure they're looking for someone who had a first-round grade that slipped through the cracks. This has traditionally been a round for receivers for the Packers, so I could see them taking one.
He's still a productive player. I don't see them trading him.
A second-rounder I suspect.
Sutton is bigger, more like a Packers receiver. 4.54 is pretty good for a guy who's 6-3 1/2.
I think you have to have press corners to play in Pettine's defense. Jackson is not that.
They need anyone who can rush the passer. But I was thinking about it today and their pass rush is going to have to come from their defensive line. Lots of pressure on Daniels, Clark, Wilkerson and Adams. If you get pass rush from those guys, you don't have to have a dominant edge rusher. The quarterback will come to him.
I was not one of those who was bashing him yesterday. I think the trade was smart on paper. But as I said, the caveat is that Edmunds or James don't become all-pros.
