WR. I thought the Packers might even consider a WR earlier in the draft, especially if they want to play Jordy more in the slot. Cobb can't/shouldn't play outside.
Hmmmm. As a rookie Lacy averaged between 21 and 22 touches per game. Maybe not quite 25, but it's been done.
Cowboys are up, Packers are next.
Cowboys take WR Ryan Switzer.
Packers select RB Jamaal Williams, BYU.
#Packers get their running back. It's Jamaal Williams from BYU.
Williams rushed for 3,901 yards in four seasons, including 1,375 and 12 touchdowns as a senior. He's 6-foot, 212, ran the 40 in 4.59.
Packers get themselves a power back who had surgery on his knee.
He had some troubles as a kid, but turned things around and went to a Mormon school even though he's not a mormon.
Jon-Eric Sullivan on Williams: Super excited to have him. We were fine with where he was as far as (his knee).
Sullivan: Aggressive, strong lower body, ability to break tackles. Has not had a ton of opportunities as a pass catcher. He'll complement the guys we have here. We're excited about Ty and Christine Michael.
Sullivan: He had an honor code violation, but he's a good kid. He took a leave of absence for personal reasons. That's his story to tell. He could have gone anywhere he wanted. Could have transfered. But he came back and chose to do that. That says something about the kid.
Sullivan: He faced some adversity. It wasn't an easy journey, but he played his best football late. We were very impressed.
Sullivan: Sturdy, built to last. He's what you want back there, base, balance and he's strong kid.
Sullivan: He's a guy who can hammer teams in the winter. We were surprised he was there. A very good value pick.
Sullivan: There are a lot of good runners out there in the middle of the draft.
Williams, by the way, was suspended a year for violating the honor code at BYU. He spent the night with a co-ed.
Williams' knee injury was in 2014. He tore an ACL. He had an ankle injury last year.
Here's Jamal Williams on a conference call: I was just excited. Ready to be a Packer. Never so excited in my life. I'm ready to contribute to the team and get some Ws.
Williams: I feel like a big weight lifted off me. It was great for my family to be here. I knew my family would support me no matter what round I was taken in.
Williams: I feel like I'm old-style back. I like to bruise. I like to pound people. I'm a workhorse. I'm getting stronger and stronger, try to wear defenses down. At the same time, I feel like I can make big runs.
Williams: I've watched Eddie Lacy before. I'm just trying to come in and do my job. I'm not going to put too many expectations on me. I'm going to just do what I do best.
Williams: My favorite backs were Walter Payton and Eric Dickerson. Walter Payton ran hills. I watched what Walter Payton did and tried to put that in my game. I think I was just watching videos and he came across and I just liked how he did everything. I did some research and saw videos of what he did in the off-season.
Williams on honor code: I had a girl in my room. Most of the NFL guys laughed. Really wasn't a big deal with the coaches and everyone else. They thought it was good that I stuck it out with BYU. Loyalty is a big thing for me.
Williams on suspension: I was angry. But they tell you the rules before you get there. It's your responsibility to follow the honor code.
There goes Jake Butt off the board.
I think it's clear LeRoy invented it. But Brooks popularized it.
I think LeRoy's fine with that. I had to be someone on offense taking it to another level.
I just updated the available players. If I missed anybody getting picked, let me know.
They're getting to that time when they need to grab someone on the OL. A run was made on tight ends so I don't think they're going in that direction. There are still some DL out there.
I'm thinking they'll address WR in the undrafted free agency period.
