Scouts worry about him not being very flexible and more of a straight-line type of rusher.
Had a very good senior year after being invisible before that.
Adams had a second-to-third round grade on him.
He's not nearly as talented as Kenny Clark, but he's that kind of size and style. He's not the monster nose tackle who's going to sit in and stuff the run all day long.
You realize that there's four more rounds to go right? And that there are backs in the NFL who aren't first-round picks, right?
What does it have to do with Clark?
He's a pass rusher. He's not a run-stopping nose tackle. He has some juice in his legs. That's why they took him.
Now that's a legitimate concern.
It's not negativity. They just lose perspective when it comes to the draft because there's so much information about the top picks and nothing on the bottom ones.
Thompson: We got all three guys on defense. Maybe we'll do something about that tomorrow. We felt the draft went well.
Thompson on speed at DB: Speed, size, athletic ability, we felt they had those qualities. They sure did.
Thompson: I think you're always trying to get faster. I don't think it's a negative thing. Football is about explosiveness, speed...
Thompson: This is not your grandfather's NFL. Everybody is fast everybody is quick.
Thompson on Adams: He's got the versatility to move around. Ran 4.8 at 300 pounds.
Thompson on King: We like his size, his height, arm length, speed. Like the way he covered on the outside and can move him inside.
Thompson on RBs: There are other avenues for position players. We try to stick with our habit of taking best players available.
Thompson on Josh Jones: He has tremendous physicque. Athletic. Can run like the wind. Can be in the slot, in the box, deep part of defense.
Thompson on secondary: Tried to add some more pieces to the pie. Secondary in the NFL is a tough place to be.
Thompson on OLBs: We need some football players tomorrow. We'll worry about the roster makeup as we go along.
I think it's a crapshoot. I think your guess is as good as mine. It's clear he's looking to add athletes to the team and he's not that worried about where they play. He obviously feels fine about his offense and thinks it's more important to add athleticism on defense. I don't know where he'll go with the rest of his picks. I would think a pass rusher would be likely but I can't say when he'll take one. Same with running back.
I will be here tomorrow with some help from Michael Cohen.
Some of it is his subtle humor to act like he doesn't know what's going on. I think the long hours take a toll on him but he's also messing with us a little bit. I remember thinking he was this way last year too.
Will do. I'm going to take off and get going on my writing responsibilities. Let's reconvene tomorrow for the final rounds of this baby. Be on time because the Packers pick first. I will start a little early and we'll be off and running.
BTW, Montravius Adams became a father early this morning. Not a bad day for him to get drafted and becoming a father on the same day.
His son is Montravious Adams Jr.
